Brian Weidling attended Emerson College, in Boston Massachusetts, where he studied television and film producing. He was a college athlete, playing soccer on a prosthetic leg and becoming a three-year starter and team captain his senior year. He took his passion for soccer to ESPN where he was a production associate for the lead unit at the 1994 World Cup while still only a junior in college. During his senior year at Emerson he was named to Who's Who of American College's and Universities and was given the East Coast Athletic Conference Award of Valor.
His interest in documentaries began to blossom as he undertook writing, producing and directing an award-winning feature-length documentary on the 1970 Kent State Shootings titled 13 Seconds. It premiered in March 1997 at The Tahoe International Film Festival. Upon graduation he was accepted to the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC, where he met his current partners. He left Stark to assist the Head of Business and Legal Affairs at Mutual Film Company on such big budget and critically acclaimed films as Hard Rain, The Jackal, Saving Private Ryan, A Simple Plan, and The Truman Show. Brian then went on to work with Mitch Block, president of Direct Cinema Limited, a documentary distribution company that has distributed over 55 Oscar Nominated documentaries, 6 Oscar winners, and countless Emmy Award winners.
In Early 2000, Mr. Weidling produced two episodes for Court TV's Hollywood and Crime series, before moving on his own to write, produce and direct The Goal-Claudio Reyna, a four year odyssey following the US men's soccer team captain's journey through World Cup qualifying and his ascent to the World Cup All Star Team in 2002. The film was narrated by Robert Duvall and was critically acclaimed by Sports Illustrated as a "soccer nut's dream".
Since starting Tumbleweed Entertainment, Brian has produced and directed over 20 animatics for clients Activision, Coors, Wendy's, Dreamworks, BMW, Glade, Ameriprise, Sears, Valvoline, Miller, SBC/Yahoo and ad agencies Secret Weapon, Deutch, Draft FCB, GDS&M, BPN, Young & Rubicam and Ogilvy & Mather.
Brian, along with Paul Galichia, has been producing several documentaries, including chronicling the path of twin girls from Arkansas who have their eyes set on careers in professional music. This journey behind the lens began when the twins were 12 years old and they are currently 15 and have a record deal with Maverick Records (Warner Bros.). Most recently Brian co-created, produced and directed a new media series for Discovery Channel titled Go Green, which will be delivered across several media platforms including web, mobile, video on demand and broadcast on Discovery's new eco channel Planet Green.
